you know i think part of the reason i ship sterek so hard is that i can’t imagine derek in like a traditionally “romantic” relationship
like derek going on dates and stuff? derek holding someone’s hand or kissing them goodbye on the porch? derek attempting to find like a suitable anniversary gift?
i find it all both hilarious and utterly unimaginable
but my idea of sterek is so…i think “quiet” would be the word
like everyone jokes about wall-slamming and dirty, dirty sex and stuff, but i think it would kind of be calmer than that. their personalities complementing each other in such a way that derek would sort of ground stiles, give him something tangible to focus on when he’s getting really hyper
and stiles would bring derek out of his shell a bit, get him to open up a little without pushing
they’d be each other’s anchors
and i see their relationship happening in a very untraditional, un-scott ‘n’ allison way, mostly behind closed doors with a lot of snark and a lot of bickering (but rarely a serious fight)
and they wouldn’t ever do anything romantic, obviously, there wouldn’t be flowers or date nights or cute gifts or fuck i don’t even know. massages after long days.
i picture them watching out for each other when shit’s going down. or sitting in stiles’s bedroom doing research and discussing plans. snapping at each other, and then stiles makes a dumb joke and derek scowls even harder because he’s trying not to be amused, but stiles sees right through that bullshit and smirks to himself. sometimes derek would shut down and go all cold shoulder and stiles would be annoyed as fuck, sometimes stiles would finally get on derek’s last nerve and get yelled at (but derek never wolfs out at stiles, because losing control like that is not a thing derek ever does)
but no matter how dysfunctional or unhealthy it would seem on the surface, they’d still have those moments where they’re just sitting in the car listening to the radio and stiles changes the station and derek rolls his eyes but he still looks pretty freaking content to be there
anyway, the point of this is that i don’t see them being at all cutesy or PDA or romantic, and that’s why i love this pairing so much. the exploration of a modern-time, nontypical relationship is something that does not happen a lot.
(Or, How Next Season will be the Year of Stiles)
So I have this theory that Teen Wolf is doing something really interesting in regards to the symbolism of the classical five elements and how the show uses those elements within their storytelling. It’s more than just the fact that each season seems to revolve around a single element, it’s that this element doesn’t just drive the material thematically, but also directly relates to the actual plot.
And, more than that, I think that when you dig a little deeper you find that each of these elements are also at the center of each of the main characters, both symbolically and in direct relation to their ultimate character arcs.
But let me start at the beginning. Bear with me here.
